A time-saving tip for your studio…
My July opening is coming soon so I’m stealing time and working away! Whatever I can do to maximize paint time is a priority. Here’s a time-saving tip I came up with that’s helping so much.
My buckets of paint have lids, but they are awkward to open and seal. Now, instead of the lids, I’ve placed 12x12 panels to cover the paint. It works great! The neatly stacked buckets keep the paint and brushes wet so when I come back to the studio I’m ready to roll. It’s the little tips that add up to more ease in your practice.
Do you have a time-saving tip to share? Leave it in the comments and let’s help each other!
My guest on the Art2Life podcast this week is artist and photographer, Kristin Little. We met recently at the Art2Life studio and I found out she’s been doing the Creative Visionary Program while on a sailboat! I have long dreamed of doing workshops on a sailboat so I couldn’t wait to talk to her. Join us as we make art and listen as Kristin shares about her amazing adventures! Tune in this Wednesday wherever you stream podcasts or grab a sketchbook and watch right here on our UA-cam Channel!
Have an awesome Sunday!

Everything Matters - Danielle LaPorte - Art2Life Podcast Episode 132
Переглядів 2,8 тис.12 годин тому
Art2Life.com - Danielle LaPorte loves simplicity. The closer she gets to a heart-centered life, the more she craves it. It’s become a spiritual practice. She lets go of anything she hasn’t used for 6-12 months. She doesn’t buy mindlessly. Instead, everything in her home has a story, a reason behind buying it. Everything matters. Simplicity requires letting go. It requires loosening your attachm...

As I prepare for my July show, there’s always a period of struggle when I’m figuring out what's working and what's not. Here’s a tip that’s helping me now… I ask myself two questions: "What do I like in this painting?" and "Where do I feel most free?" Then I look for those areas in the work. When I feel more free, my authenticity shines through. It’s not about painting wildly, but rather creati...

Is it time to simplify your art?

Something's come up as I've been working on many new paintings in the studio. The work is evolving quickly, but it looks complicated. I'm losing track of what it is I want to show. It reminds me to pause and remember what I was excited about in the first place. This painting had more texture, shapes, and color - the things I add almost out of habit, but the design is what I love. Simplifying th...

Raquel Baldocchi is a mixed-media contemporary artist in the Bay Area. Raquel draws inspiration from her grandmother, who created textile art, made beautiful scrapbooks, and crafted ornaments every year for Christmas. Raquel’s college boyfriend’s mother was a printmaker. She influenced Raquel so much that Raquel pursued a degree in printmaking. Now, every piece of art that Raquel creates is inf...
My favorite finish for my paintings…
Переглядів 2,9 тис.21 день тому
Today I want to show you my favorite finish for a painting - cold wax. I use cold wax on both acrylic and oil paintings to create a final beautiful surface. It often takes two coats that I then polish to create a river stone finish - it’s not glossy, and not matte, it’s just right. I love the natural quality of the wax and the yummy luster it leaves after polishing. Cold wax works so well for a...
My art practice is getting a change in scenery…

I’m in beautiful Mexico and I want to make some big art down here for my upcoming show. A change in environment always gets my creative juices flowing! I paint on canvas but like to mount it to large wood panels for support. Luckily I found a woodshop who can make panels to my specifications. I just tested one and it’s going to work great! Having this new place to make art is so exciting! A bea...
Here is one of my favorite mark-making tips…
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Місяць тому
This week I have a tip for you that I regularly use to create cool marks and texture - some dark and some light. I love the idea of working with these opposites. If I want a light painting for instance, my first layer will be very dark. Then I cover that underpainting with lights. Once I do this, I can go back in to bring out the dark marks by scratching through the light surface. It seems coun...
I have a title for my upcoming exhibition!

I’m so excited! The paintings for my July show are coming along and I have a title for the show - FLOURISH! I love this word because I consider it the next level of becoming alive. To flourish is to move into a higher level of the human experience. It includes conditions such as creativity, self-expression, curiosity, and awe! It’s almost a childlike state of wonder and amazement at the mysteri...

How to Balance Your Art and Life - Nicholas Wilton - The Art2Life Podcast - Episode 122
Nick, this was absolutely incredible. You are an amazing teacher. It was so interesting to watch your transitions as you went through. I probably understand 1/10 now, because I am where I am in my process. However, I am committed and excited to find where I can take my painting from here - thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I keep pieces of aluminium foil to wrap my brushes in when I stop for a while, also good overnight. Mold the foil around the bristles. It works very well and the base of the bristles doesn't dry out. If the brush is getting tacky just spray a little water on the brush before wrapping it.
Love your lessons and podcasts! That paint roller trick was pretty cool.
"Your soul will always pull you towards the unknown. It takes you to the place that feels foreign because it wants to teach you something." So profound - Ive written it in my journal (Ive paraphrased) Thank you 🙏
brilliant! having stuff handy is HUGE!
is this latex or acrylic paint in these amazing quantities?
Great if you’ve got the space!
Possibly the dry wood panels are sucking up some moisture from the paint. Maybe a wet shop towel draped over the paint tub under the plastic lid would work as well. Mist the towel with water and cover it again each day. Just a thought, but I think it will keep a humid environment inside the paint tub.
Great idea
Thank you so much for all the new ideas you gave me❤
Beautiful podcast. Thank you.
I will be watching this over and over; so rich!!!! Thankyou for taking me to church🙏 Danielle, you’re such a deep thinker. I appreciate the effort in learning to speak your truth. Bravo!
Hi, I’m new to your channel 👍🏻 can you please tell me what you mix with your acrylics. Thanks
This couldn't have been more perfectly timed for me. I was listening to you both as I was painting a large piece of crapstraction. The message to "just keep working" and to "keep making art even if it's bad" forced me to keep my brush in my hand. Thank you for all you do to keep artists effecting on their own behalf. I look forward to buying Jerry's book.
Wow! Amazing talk. Currently doing a super clean of my studio in preparation for a fresh new body of work. This talk was the perfect reminder of all that is important to me in Art/Life. Thank you for sharing so deeply and openly 💖
Whew, this is really important, thank you
Thank you🙏 I loved every bit of this interview 🩵
Apparently Hemingway would purposely end a writing session already knowing what he would do next so he would know where to start when he next sat down to write.
Thank you!
I like to deliberately put put wax on and paint over it...then I sand the painting with an electric sander and the paint comes off in interesting ways where the wax was. Then I add more paint and sand again here and there. It's a back and forth that can get really interesting...or NOT.
I love this and I definitely aim to live within intentional simplicity. At the same time, I have beenin the midst of letting go of lack mentality and impoverishment mind set, which has had a stronghold on my psyche That mindset has been an unfortunate through line in about every aspect of my life, and sometimes the topic of letting go can activate this Idea that I am not allowed to have (whatever it is). I love shoes and beautiful clothes. so I won't bet purging it all. LOL. I will say though, that I aim to only buy what I love and I do't believe if I have had something for more than a year, then it is dead weight. Some things are worth keeping. I am not afraid to purge though and it is definitely time for me to go through my closet and let go of what is not working. I love the idea of blessing everything and will be adopting that. I too am not afraid to paint over something , I may do this more than necessary at times, but I believe in the process and if nothing else I do believe in my artwork. Sometimes I have to destroy the most beautiful aspect of a painting if the whole is not working with it. That always pains me a bit, but I ultimately do it and something always comes from it. Everything has value, but nothing is too precious.
Another inspiring conversation. I loved Danielle’s mention of Agape and Michael Beckwith at the end…I’m a big fan! Too much stuff is so draining on every level and something that’s an ongoing issue in my life. I live in a really small condo and need to be ruthless about purging…it’s a huge challenge. The universe is so gracious to keep encouraging me through conversations like this! Thanks to you both. 🙏🫶
Wonderful podcast…I cried several times bc of the resonance of what was being said. I am also a life long seeker…and I feel like I am trying to “paint” and “sing and compose” into what I am seeking….I love the Rumi quote…”what you seek is seeking you”….
The ‘ebb’ has felt like a scary place, but Spirit is guiding me in how to appreciate it as an integral part of flow. This is such a Lovely interview. ❤
Wonderful show! Thank you both🙏
I share Danielle's life style, I love purging "stuff".
Less is more
Great discussion! You really need to be more concerned about the sound on you podcasts. The acoustics suck! Spend some time and money on something that vol rings the echoes down! 🤬
Fabulous pod cast. Inspirational.
🙌🏻
I love the question and also i absolutely loved seeing all the details and subtleties of your work. My questions, when i remember have been "does this make me feel expanded or contracted"...
All artists want to succeed. It is very hard for any artist to make a living this is why you see people teach or coach. This is the truth. The biggest problem is that people don't support the arts. How do we solve this problem??? All artists would succeed if people supported the arts. Local artists.
You’re so right Nick ! It’s only after months and years do we become consistently good at our art .
So true in my experience. Often, in my work I am wondering if this way of approaching a certain area is ok? Instead of: wow: this area feels great/new etc and it also works in the context. Then, more often than I could care for, I find myself watering that area down to what I know is ‘acceptable’. And every time I could bite myself in the butt! 😅
I think I still hear my father's ghost voice saying painting is not work. That is such a stumbling block
Sooo goood ❤️
BE...DO....HAVE!!!! blows my mind Thank you thank you for this amazing Podcast
I’m watching this for the second time, such fantastic insights and encouragement…I could have watched it for another hour!! So yes, this format is awesome. Thank you Nick and James 🙏💕💥
Thank you for these tips. I will try this with my own work. I have something I worked on in my sketchbook this morning and noticed parts I liked but other parts I didn't like! I had to walk away from it and will see if i feel less constrained when i go back to it later.
🌊🐬Surfing in Flow state!
Like this method for bringing who we are now to our art and we can observe the difference especially as it relates to old ideas, styles, themes and mark making.
Great ideas. Gives me a new point of view when staring at my work! very helpful. Have one in my studio this very moment that needs me to practice this new vision. Sometimes I think I'm too bold, too much color; I see on the screen how much white you are using in this particular painting. I'm going to practice using more whites, lights and neutrals hard as that seems to be given my love of bold color! Thank you for your generous teachings. can't wait to sign up for your classes next years (2025).
The mind is complicated . Even a mistake is not a mistake but part of the path towards self expression. I try to pay more attention to the interactions of color, values and shapes. Your podcast have helped me to see better. Thanks
Great advice. Also I think it can calm us down when the little brain demons start to whisper at you, ‘So - you think you can paint, do you? We’ll see about that’.!
Thanks, nick! Good stuff!
I’m an A2L newbie and having so much fun that getting stuck is not as much of a problem as painting so long that I lose track of time! But when I don’t intuitively don’t like what’re I’m going, when the painting looks muddy, too busy, etc, I get up and leave the area. Get a drink, make a phone call or go outside n breathe. That usually clears my mind …and the painting
Yes, i do something similar. I compare pictures. And the likes and dislikes become apparent.
I love that your focus has shifted over the years to truly support internal growth and the Crrative Spirit, Nick. So much appreciation for you & your team. Thank you!!!! I look forward to joining you on a Mexico workshop one fine day!!
I absolutely agree with you!❤
Love this thank you! You can’t steer a boat if it isn’t moving.
